I believe in setting expectations and this roadmap serves as a way to do that. The Roadmap is based on my own experience working with clients. I want it to help you better understand the long term investment and pay off of training and eating right! As I tell all of my clients, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Just Starting:
You are becoming aware of your good and bad habits, keeping track of your eating without judgment. You're hitting the gym consistently, maybe for the first time ever, and you're starting to notice that you're stronger than you thought you were. You’re learning to recognize your hunger and satiety cues. You’ve started making small, consistent changes in your diet (e.g., adding more vegetables, reducing sugar). You understand the basic principles of balanced nutrition (reading nutrition labels, macronutrients). Your energy and mood are showing definite improvements, probably because you're sleeping better!
After A Few Months:
You understand energy balance and know how much is too much or not enough. You're making better choices in regards to your nutrition without feeling deprived. You've established good meal planning and meal prep routines. You're noticeably stronger and more mobile than you were. Your body composition is changing and you like what you're seeing. Things that used to bother you a little bit like leaning down to pet the dog or getting up off the ground are much easier. You're eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, maybe for the first time ever! You get quality sleep consistently. You're more confident and your relationship with food and exercise is better than ever.
Long Term:
Your nutrition and exercise habits are an automatic, enjoyable part of your life. You are confident in adjusting your diet to match changing goals (fat loss, muscle gain, maintenance). Working out no longer feels like a chore, you actually look forward to it. You're fitter than ever before and it's noticeable. You can easily navigate nutrition choices while traveling, eating out, or dealing with stress. Your energy levels, digestion, mood, and sleep are consistently better.
